During my doctoral program in Educational Psychology, I was diagnosed with cancer. Although challenging, this gave me the opportunity to delve into a long held passion for gaming. It was then that I realized that educators have not utilized amazing inherent gaming conventions that invisibly adapt to learners to help them self-monitor, see there own success and plan for future success. Currently I develop ways to use the tools found in programs, such as Blackboard, to create spaces where students want to self-monitor and be successful in their academic activities, just as they do naturally in games.
