Doug Paulson served as the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) specialist at the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) from 2010-17, and became Director of Academic Standards and Instructional Effectiveness in 2017. Prior to serving in his roles at MDE, he spent 10 years as a middle school science teacher, elementary teacher, curriculum integration coordinator, and intern principal in various districts in Minnesota. He has presented nationally and internationally on STEM instructional, curricular and policy best practices. He was elected as a board member for the Council of State Science Supervisors, served on the committee for Guiding Implementation of K-12 Engineering Education for the National Academy of Engineering, and was recognized by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) in its 2011 Class of Emerging Leaders. Doug has a B.A. in elementary education from Concordia College in Moorhead, and a M.Ed. in instructional leadership from Bethel University. He is currently completing his Ed.D. in leadership, administration, and policy at Bethel University.
